Beef Alert: Miranda Lambert hates Chris Brown too

Here at Plus1Press, it's well established that Chris Brown is a tremen-DOUCHE, who should never be allowed on tv, radio or the internet ever again.

So after the Grammy's foolishly invited #fuckChrisBrown to lip-sync not once, but twice, this year and the Grammy voters somehow gave him an award, it was a relief when other musicians weren't shy about expressing their disappointment.

The MVP of Publicly Hating on Chris "My dance moves are as half-assed as my apologies" Brown 2012 goes to Miranda Lambert, who took to twitter shortly after the Grammys.

When Chris Brown hit back (see what I did there?) saying, "HATE ALL U WANT BECUZ I GOT A GRAMMY Now!!! That's the ultimate fuck off," Miranda was unimpressed, replying "I just have to speak my mind because where I come from, beating up on a woman is never OK ... So that's why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun...I have a Grammy too"

Later that week, while performing at UMass, she held up a sign that said "Take Notes Chris Brown" and then she sang "Gunpowder and Lead" the best song about killing a man that beats up a lady since "Earl had to die."
So in honor of Miranda Lambert speaking for us all, have a listen:

Fuck Joe Paterno

"The evil that men do lives after them.
The good is oft interred with their bones"
Julius Caesar Act 3 Scene 2

Joe Paterno was a really successful and incredibly long tenured football coach for Penn State. During his time at Penn State Joe Paterno donated over 4 million dollars to Penn State including helping to get the library which shares his name built. This aside, Fuck Joe Paterno. In 2002 Joe Paterno was informed that a staff member had been seen in Joe's own words "fondling or doing something of a sexual nature" to a ten year old boy. Joe Paterno heard this, slept on it, AND THEN THE NEXT DAY reported it to his superior and didn't do shit else. So Fuck Joe Paterno and Fuck anyone else who doesn't do all they can to make sure kids are safe from anyone who wants to hurt them. Joe Paterno will only be remembered for what he didn't do. Fuck him.

FreeSol, getting Justin Timberlake Back into [Musical] Action

Justin Timberlake keeps saying he hasn't quit the music biz, and I believe him. As soon as people start doubting he just does a feature on someone else's song and once again we're panting after him.

This time around we have Free Sol to thank for it. According to wikipedia, they are a progressive rap, rock, soul band from Memphis, same as Justin! He saw them perform live and signed them to his baby record company. Today JT tweeted this video for "Hoodies On, Hats Low" which he directed. He's in the video too; occasionally echoing the main guy, whisper singing, and stylishly walking, almost dancing. It's very clearly his asthetic though, from the coloring to the movement, once he's in the video it becomes a Justin video, because it's so in line with his style. Just the way the whole group walks forward and bounces on the "low," screams JT, in a very good way.

I can't stop listening to it. Give it a whirl:

p.s. in my opinion this song is way more fun than anything I've heard of Watch the Throne, which is all of it.

Pandora is the Smartest Person I Know

A few years ago av and I were at her dad's house and he was real excited about this new website he had just just learned about. He asked us what kind of music we had been listening to lately, which was hard, we were really just locked into either the Once soundtrack or Back to Black. Then av's dad got back to making an enourmous omelet after which we went to a museum to see a Gerald Murphy art show. Gerald Murphy and his wife Sara were American Expatriates who lived on the French Riviera at the beginning of the 1900s, the Murphy's are credited with inventing sunbathing.
It was a few years before I used Pandora again. This past Winter I dove in. And Pandora is the Smartest Person I Know. I love the new songs it bring to me, how I can thumbs down songs that I disagree with, Pandora knows to not play any Chris Brown FUCK CHRIS BROWN, and how Pandora reminds you of songs from an album you actually have over in iTunes, just maybe it is track 11 and you never really hear it.
I had never heard of Gorilla Zoe before.  My 6 foot 7 foot station was acquainted with him and made the introductions . The song was "I got it" and instantly I was reminded that Pandora is the Smartest Person I know. "I got It" reminds me of "In the club" or any rap song about how the rapper has IT which are usually the best rap songs.

Pandora knew that I would dig "Mystifies Me" by Son Volt. I really like Ryan Adams. I just let Pandora run wild when I made a Ryan Adams station. I didn't want to anchor it in "Halloweenhead" or "Easy Plateau" because I trusted Pandora to do me right, which they did, obvs, Pandora is the Smartest Person I Know.

this is for the ladies

This song was just shown to me last night, and it is, quite frankly, badass, unbelievably sexy, and filled with so much independent-women pride and power that I may have to start every day listening to it, at least for a while.
Thank you Beyonce, for reminding me in only 4 minutes and 51 seconds, that girls run the world. If I ever start to forget it again, I'll just hit replay.

Now I wanna go dance.

also, teachers at my school are the best.

Karmin is better than Chris Brown

Sometimes when I am extremely tired on the way home from work, I like to listen to this song and try to learn all the words. Just try it.

P.S. She does tons of other songs that you can find on her YouTube channel.

Do NOT buy these sunglasses.

Knockarounds. Great looking sunglasses that are so cheap and durable you don’t mind “knocking them around”

I was at the bar with my friend last night and I tossed her sun glasses aside. I picked them up and apologized. She said not to worry about it “they’re knockArounds”. I wasn’t sure if she was talking about the brand or if she just had some cool lingo that I wasn’t hip to yet... I gave an understanding  nod of my head to say; yes I'm cool AND I know what you’re talking about.

This morning Google solves all my problems. I find http://www.knockaround.com/index.php and the huge selection of awesome sunglasses. They have the premium edition, which are those cool “frog skin” type of sunglasses with the frosted shades in a BUNCH of different colors.

WHAT THE H!?!? – They are only 14 bucks! FUCK ME!? – 7 bucks for the originals (not as cool). You gutta pick up a pair of these sunglasses! Before the hipsters get wind of it and you cant be seen in public with them on*.

But Wait you CANT buy them. Because im buying an entire bucket of the bastards. http://www.knockaround.com/item.php?item_id=293&category_id=22 – that’s right. You can get every single one their sunglasses in a big OL’ bucket.

Best Dance Scene Ever Filmed

So you think you can dance, America's got talent, dancing with the stars, the 'step up' movies; all of these show case broad realms of dancing in contemporary culture. But, to be honest, these guys in this film kick the tar out of anybody else from our modern times. Fred Astaire even said that these guys were the best dancing duo out there. I believe that this fact is still true today.

Geek Rappers

As fans of music, television, comedy, and general 'geekiness' I feel that all of our palettes are broad enough that I can put this out there for all to love. I have assembled a few artists that if you don't know, then you should.

Donald Glover (member of derrick comedy and cast member of the show community) has a rapping alias known as Childish Gambino. If I could oversimplify his style and flow is to simply say that he makes songs using indie beats (adele and sleigh bells to name 2 off of the top of my head) to make amazing songs. Check out his new single off of his latest EP called Freaks and Geeks.

[its not the official music video b/c I wasn't able to embed the video file :-(]

The next one on my list who fits into this new category is Nyle. I have been a fan of this guy for a few years ever since I heard his remake of Lil Wayne's Let the Beat Build. Born in Philadelphia and schooled at NYU this guy is paying his dues on the underground for notoriety and respect and he has the chops to back it up. He has a couple of mixtapes available for free at his website and I suggest that if you like any of the following songs you should definitely download his mix tapes.

(As an incredible side note; the above video was shot entirely in 1 take by 1 camera man and the audio was recorded live. Amazing.)

The last rapper/hip-hopper I'll mention is a man by the name of Reggie Watts. To simply put it; awesome! He is literally a 1 man band with only a weird voice-distorter-machine-thingy and his own vocal chords and this guy is starting to get some real notice as of late. He has been a fairly regular act on Conan since he has switched to TBS but if you haven't seen him before check out this performance from the Conan O'Brien show and his uber famous single "Fuck Shit Stack" below.

Conclusion

I believe that the above artists are at the forefront of the next generation of hip-hop, R&B, rap and as well as comedy. Childish Gambino has some of the freshest beats I have heard in a while and the fact that the beats are all sampled from Indie bands is pretty amazing; plus his lyrics are incredibly fun/filthy which is a lovely reminder of B.I.G. Nyle is a smart young man trying to find his own voice in hip-hop and at the same time, I believe, he is helping others in the rap arena realize that they don't have to impersonate another mainstream voice in order to sound dope as all hell. Plus his lyrics are incredibly refreshing in a rap community mired in the dissolution that bigger cars and more chris brown-esque acts is what hip-hop needs. Reggie Watts is simply incredible and so fun to watch perform and the fact that he hasn't been scooped up by a Kanye West or even Andre 3000 to help make original and amazing beats is beyond me.

Katy Perry Rocks Right Now and Pop Makes a Comeback

Not that I lost any faith in pop music but driving two hours a day to the same Rhianna and Pitbull songs does make you go a little crazy sometimes. I have been known to hate on Katy Perry-MAINLY because that song California Girls is pure awfulness.

1) The Beach Boys already made a song about California girls and it was way better
2) Aqua and the band that sang I'm Blue Dab a Dee in the 90's don't make music like that or at all anymore. For a reason.
3) Don't be a bad ass and come out saying how you kiss girls and then turn around and pull some bubble gum pop bullshit that Britney put on "Baby One More Time.." as a filler. If I wanted to listen to that I'd just pull up Soda Pop and be done with it.

Besides that one slip up though I do love most of Katy Perry's songs. They don't sound like Lady Gaga, Rhianna, or Britney and she's slightly more bad ass without being crazy in general, crazy because Chris Brown beat you up, or crazy because everyone in the media follows you around and sometimes you shave your head and beat cars up with umbrellas.

Her new single E.T. is pretty great. It sounds like that T.A.T.U song that came out back in the day except instead about lesbians its about Aliens. Entertainment weekly wants us to believe that it wouldn't have been a single if not for Kanye's verses on it BUT I come to Katy's defense in this one. The song is awesome and so is the video. She has a way of making her music sounds more complex than typical female pop singers even if it is about doing it with your alien boyfriend. Of course Kanye jumped on this track! You think he's gonna miss an opportunity to rap about having sex with someone not human? No chance! Kanye definitely makes the song more awesome because I mean. He's Kanye. But we all knew that. Katy holds her own in this one though and I think that even without Kanye this song would rock.

Check it out and see what you think

jmn

ps. everyone should definitely check out Britney's new cd. I think it's super fun.
